Debt settlement firms expect you to have at least $10,000 in credit card debt. They expect you to pay them $1500-2000 or more of that $10,000 in fees before they settle your debt. They also expect you to stop paying your credit card and give those monthly payments to them for their fees and your eventual lump-sum settlement.

What happens if they cannot settle with your credit card bank? What happens to the money you have paid them? What happens to your credit card account that is in arrears? What happens to your credit rating? How long will it take you to save $7000, $2000 for the debt settlement firm and $5000 for a 50 percent lump sum settlement?

$500 a month will total $7000 after– months of payments to the debt settlement firm. At that pace it will be over one year before $5000 can be paid (after $2000 in fees is taken) in a lump sum to end the debt. But, that debt may no longer exist because the banks charge off unpaid credit card debts after six months. Then within the year, they sell those bad debts for about 10 cents on the dollar.

If that happens to you, that means some junk debt buyer has bought your debt for 10 cents on the dollar before it has been negotiated. At that point there is no reason for the bank to remove the charged-off debt’s bad mark from your credit report, which means it will be there for seven years.

According to the Credit Card Debt Survival Guide, you will need to be ready for the junk debt buyer?s attempts to collect the debt. If you are not ready, if you are counting on the debt settlement firm and unaware of the debt?s charge-off and sale, you could be ambushed by a debt collector or collection attorney.

So, your settlement fee is gone. Your debt is not settled. Your credit is bruised. And, you are fighting debt collectors. If you are lucky you still have $5000, but only if the settlement firm put it in a third-party escrow account.

Matt Highlander researched and wrote part of Credit Card Debt Survival Guide. Learn about debt settlement and legal nonpayment strategies for eliminating credit card debt.

During the boom days when everyone assumed that housing prices would continue to rise ad infinitum, Ireland was wedded to their credit cards. There was always more credit on tap. Buying and selling property was the kind of thing you would feel left out if you weren’t doing. Even before banks cut off questionable lending, people started to realize that accumulating debt was ultimately not going to be offset by a continued boom in property prices. The consumer’s mindset was largely “Buy now, pay later,” and unfortunately, the “Rip Off Ireland” concept was largely tolerated by consumers. But something happened on the way to the credit crunch.

By the time the credit crunch hit in 2008, many consumers worldwide were already going on the assumption that all the financial candy they’d been eating the past few years was going to result in several years of biliousness. Ireland was no exception. Thrift quickly became the new standard.

To that end, consumers are paying much more attention to the terms of service of their credit cards, canceling those with the worst terms and transferring balances to cards with lower interest rates or better perks. If you do carry a credit card with a balance, you can probably find a better deal if you do some searching. Here are a few things to look for when looking for better credit card deals in Ireland.

Perhaps the the change that would make the biggest difference would be a lower interest rate, not just a low or 0% introductory rate. Unless you plan to pay off your entire balance quickly, low “teaser” rates are likely to rebound back to where your rates were before – or worse.

That said, if you have the means to pay off your credit card balance, you might consider getting a card with a low or 0% teaser rate on balance transfers. It isn’t as easy now to find cards with teaser rates than last for a year, but six months is still fairly easy to find. The longer that rate holds, the better. But if you know you’ll eventually be carrying a balance again, then overall interest rate is the most important characteristic you should look for in a card.

Rebates in the form of gasoline, airline miles or some sort of points reward scheme are quite appealing when money is tight. But again: if you carry a balance, interest rates will undoubtedly dwarf any perks or savings you might receive from a rebate card.

With a new attitude toward thrift, Irish credit card holders are more accepting of the idea that enticing financial offers from credit card companies often come at a very dear price.

Do you ever wonder why you get so many zero percent credit card offers in the mail? These types of offers are so popular that many people receive multiple offers from several companies on a weekly basis! Sometimes, children in the household will also receive these types of offers. It seems that companies due mass mailings when they send out these offers to consumers.

Many companies offer zero percent credit card deal as way to attract potential business or to convince a customer to transfer a balance from a higher interest rate credit card. These offers are usually successful and as a result customers will transfer their balance from another company. The end result is that the company offering the promotion gets more business and more money.

For anyone who owns a high interest credit card, these types of offers are very attractive. However, these offers also attract people who are considering applying for a credit card. Keep in mind that many of these zero percent interest rate offers end after an introductory period of time. The time frame for these introductory offers is generally between 3-6 months.

Consumers that use these credit cards on purchases should always attempt to pay off the total statement balance before the end of the promotional period. Typically, once the promotional period ends, the card then reverts to very high interest rates. After you do your research on the available zero percent credit card offers, you will more than likely only find a few that are truly reasonable. It is very important to pay attention to the details of the credit offer in question as balance transfer fees may apply.

When should you use zero percent credit cards? Well, these types of cards are perfect for financing larger purchases that you intend to payoff within a few months. This is simply because you won’t be accumulating interest charges on the purchase. If you wait to completely pay off the larger purchase, you will end up paying more than you planned.

Having good credit is a subject of great concern in this current economic situation. Everyone is worried about the state of their credit so if you are, just know that you aren’t alone. There are millions of others out there that also want to know what they can do to improve their credit. The following are 5 suggestions or ways to improve or maintain good credit.

1. Purchase LifeLock Identity Theft Protection Is identity theft protection really worth it? Many people would agree that identity protection is one of the most important services to have these days. More and more, criminals are turning to crimes involving people’s identity because it is a lucrative business. They are taking money from millions of Americans and American companies, and leaving you, the victim, to deal with cleaning up the mess. Get help and avoid identity theft with a service like LifeLock. It is really easy to sign up and definitely worth the money.

2. Monitor your credit annually, with your free credit report Residents of most states are entitled to a free annual credit report. You can get yours over the phone, through the mail, or online, from all the major bureaus. Worried about other people getting a copy? Don’t be – you’ll have to answer quite a few questions to prove your identity and make sure you’re the one who should be reading this report. You won’t get your credit score included in this report, but you will find out if there are any black marks on your record.

3. Call creditors if you are going to be late One thing that many people don’t know is that if you know you are going to be late on a payment, you can call your credit company in advanced and let them know. Most times they will give you an extension, sometimes up to 90 days. This way they don’t report it to the credit bureaus, and it won’t affect your credit. Communicating with those that you owe money to is critical. You will find that most times people are understanding as along as you are honest and timely.

4. Try to limit your use of credit One of the biggest problems that we are seeing in this country now is that people use credit for everything, even for grocery shopping. The fact of the matter is that credit should not be abused, and should only really be used for major purchases like homes, cars, home appliances or in emergency cases. The interest rate on credit cards is usually really high and most times the things we purchase with our credit cards are frivolous items that aren’t necessities.

5. Make on-time payments When you do have to use your credit cards never make only the minimum payment, unless you absolutely can’t afford to pay more. Also, never skip a payment without talking to your creditors first and making sure that it’s okay and won’t be reported. All of these will together help to improve your score and get you out of debt.

LifeLock is an identity theft protection service that has been helping people protect their credit and their identities for years. It’s a great service, and many believe that Life Lock not only gives them a great service, but peace of mind as well. To find out more about LifeLock, go to www.lifelock.com.

These days, there are many consumers who simply cannot pay the high monthly minimum payments on their credit card debts. Their guilt about that will make their likely encounter with credit card debt collectors all the worse.

These days, there are many consumers who simply cannot pay the high monthly minimum payments on their credit card debts. Their guilt about that will make their likely encounter with credit card debt collectors all the worse.

Some who go through this, however, realize that they do not need to feel guilty and submit to debt collectors.

The first step to overcoming that guilt, according to the Credit Card Debt Survival Guide, is disputing and denying the debt any credit card debt collector, other then the original creditor, calls about. Not admitting to an unsecured credit card debt and denying it is a legal strategy which can be compared to invoking the Fifth Amendment. It is not an indication of character. All this means is that the other side will have to prove that they have a case against you.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires the credit card debt collector to send the consumer a statement saying;

1. The debt collector can assume that the debt is valid if the consumer does not dispute the debt’s validity.

2. In order to dispute the debt, the consumer must dispute the debt in writing within 30 days, by sending a letter to the debt collector.

According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a consumer can also write to the credit card debt collector saying that they want the debt collector to stop contacting them about the debt.

Then what happens, when the consumer disputes and denies a credit card debt and instructs collection communications to cease when a collection attempt is made by a credit card debt collector? Their job has been made harder. They must validate the debt with copies of original documents. That means going back to the credit card company for documents, then forwarding them to the consumer.

For an unsecured, unsigned credit card debt, the first thing a credit card debt collector must do is to get the consumer to admit to the debt; to take ownership of it, to admit “guilt.” That one exchange between the consumer and the credit card debt collector sets the tenor for the rest of the debt collection communications between the two. But, if the consumer denies and disputes the alleged debt and forbids further communications, the collector will likely move on to an easy target.

If you are seeking credit card debt relief, whether you can afford to pay or not, read Matt Highlander’s Credit Card Debt Survival Guide.

The hectoring calls from your lender just won’t stop and the Visa card bills just continue coming. What can you do about it? Have you considered a debt management plan? Let us take a look at how they’re employed in the following six steps and see if perhaps this could be the answer you have been seeking.

1. The first step may appear clear but lots of folk actually have no idea of where their money is going. Take time to collect all your bureaucracy, your paperwork, bills, and fiscal papers. This can give you a correct image of where you stand financially.

2. Find a company that you are happy with and that has the resources to help you. Some of these companies can basically get your lenders to cut back the amount that you owe so pick conscientiously and ask about their average reduction. Choose a company that will customize a plan in particular for you.

3. If you have selected such a plan, you’ll be making one payment to the company and it’ll make payments to your lender. It will work with your lender to make changes like lower interest, a lower balance, or perhaps even stopping late fees.

4. Follow through with the action plan to solve your debt issues. This will suggest that you make one payment a month to the company and they negotiate with your lenders and pay them. It’d be a relief to have the situation under this kind of control. No more harassing calls or threatening letters. If you ever have extra money to pay, you can be out of debt even faster.

5. Check to see what fee the business will be charging you for their service. This will be added to your monthly payment. The company will negotiate for you and stop the harassing telephone calls. If need legal services, you must contact an attorney.

6. Learn what you can about staying out of debt. Create a budget and stick to it. Once you’re freed from all the troubling and the worrying and the stress about unpaid bills, you definitely don’t need to return to that place.

It is up to you to make that first step of taking a realistic look at what you owe, selecting a provider and a program that is right for you and can be customized to your situation, and then following through with one regular payment. In a few months you should be breathing simpler and enjoying your life again thanks to a debt management plan. It’s time to start and the earlier you start, the sooner you start, the earlier your folks will be debt-free.

Debt settlement is an incredible alternative! Before filing for bankruptcy, go to Arc Financial, we have the experience negotiating with creditors and get more information on what is a debt settlement strategy today!

The answer might surprise you. Credit being such a crucial part of your finances, it’s sometimes difficult to think that you, yourself can make changes to it. Most would think once something negative is there it will stay for seven years. That’s not always the case.

Also available is the Car Allowance Rebate System that is more popularly know as “Cash For Clunkers.” The government will offer up to $4500 for a new car if it’s more fuel efficient than your old clunker. The program started at the beginning of July and will operate while funding is available.

You will have challenges though. It’s not something you download or receive in the mail and the credit repair is on its way. You will have to dedicate some time to it. What you’ll get in return is a better understanding of credit and a better credit score. You will learn much more than you ever thought there was to credit. So it’s an investment in the long run.

An important step is to select a great credit repair firm. Attorney-based credit repair companies have the best legal resources for working with the credit bureaus. Their help pays for itself in reduced debt and improved credit history. Another plan to boost your credit score more quickly than bargaining with the credit bureaus is a plan offered by an online E-Book/Music Store. This online business is offering a credit line of $5,000 or $10,000 unsecured line of credit with no interest and no credit check. There are no fees and it has an approval rate of 99%.

Incorrect, because your credit card account can play a part to keeping your credit history in the positive and if you clear up the credit card accounts which you have been repaying on a consistent basis, this can worsen your credit report and are unfavorable to your credit restore efforts. These are the frequent mistakes you should look out for.

0% APR Credit Card Offers

0% APR Credit Card Offers

Credit card companies come up with all kinds of ideas to make their credit card seem more appealing than others, such as rewards programs, low APR, or even 0% APR credit card offers. By offering programs that make their credit card seem better than the others, they are able to bring in more customers, and therefore increase the revenue of their company. A 0% APR credit card offer is one of the most popular ideas that credit card companies have, since it gives consumers the ability to make purchases without having to pay any interest.

How Does A 0% APR Credit Card Offer Work?

When a credit card company offers a 0% APR offer, they are offering qualified card holders the opportunity to use their credit card without having to pay any interest. The 0% APR usually lasts for a specific time period, ranging from three months all the way up to a year. This means that any purchases or cash advances made on the credit card will be interest free during the introductory period, so no interest fees will ever be charged. It gives consumers the chance to make purchases they would not originally be able to afford, but they wont have to pay any penalties for making the purchase on a credit card.

What To Consider When Applying For A 0% APR Credit Card Offer

Because 0% APR credit card offers are usually only for a specific time period, it is important to look at what happens to the account once the introductory period is over. The card may be subject to a very high interest rate, and penalties and fees may result if there is a balance remaining on the card. It is important to take all of these fees and charges into consideration before applying for 0% APR credit card offers, since it may end up costing more in the long run. Another factor to consider is whether or not the interest charged after the introductory period occurs only starting when the period is over, or whether interest starting from the date the account was opened will be charged. This can end up costing a cardholder hundreds of dollars if a balance is left on the card, since the interest from the past months will be included as well. By assessing all of the possible charges and fees associated with this type of offer, one can decide whether or not 0% APR credit card offers really are beneficial.

How To Benefit From 0% APR Credit Card Offers

Even though there are some high fees and interest rates associated with 0% APR credit card offers, they can still be very beneficial when used correctly. As long as the balance on the card is paid off or you can do credit card balance transfer before the introductory period ends, one can make all of their purchases without having to pay any interest. It may even be beneficial to use the card after the introductory period has ended, as long as it has a low APR.

The purpose of 0% APR credit card offers is to make a credit card seem more appealing than another, in order to bring in customers and make them cardholders. This type of offer can be very beneficial as long as it is used correctly, but there are a few factors that cardholders should take into consideration first. As long as the credit card really is better than others on the market, taking advantage of 0% APR credit card offers can be very beneficial.

Telephone calls have no legal weight since there is no record of what was said on a call. Knowing this, credit card debt collectors will say threatening things on the phone and get away with telling their lies. That is why consumer debt collectors choose to use the phone over mail. Debt collectors lose their power when communications are reduced to writing.

Written communications from and to a credit card debt collector are what matter in court. If a consumer is writing to a debt collector it should always be certified return receipt requested.

There is a saying in online consumer forums, 100 percent of debt collectors tell lies 100 percent of the time. Here are some examples of those lies.

1. They claim over the telephone that a lawsuit has been filed against you in your local court, and that the summons is on its way to you. This is an awful, scary lie.

2. Or they may ask you for a small payment, which is well within your means – surely that is acceptable? Not so, if you make this payment then you have legally documented admission to the debt, and made things worse.

3. Debt collectors will threaten to have you arrested. No one can be arrested for a civil matter.

4. They threaten to have your wages garnished.

5. They tell you they can seize your bank account.

Each of these lies is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

These threats are attempts to get you to confirm that the debt is yours. The credit card debt collector wants to confirm the credit card number in question and get other personal information. They want to know your Social Security number, the phone number of your work place and even information about your bank account. The Credit Card Debt Survival Guide says that you should react by disputing the debt and denying it over the phone to the credit card debt collector. Remember that the person on the other end of the line unknown to you. Tell them you do not share personal information over the phone with people unknown to you and then hang up.

If you end up taking a call from a credit card debt collector, you should only stay on long enough to find out what debt they are telephoning about. Before hanging up, advise them that you need written notice of this debt and that you will not talk about it over the phone.

You should be aware that as a consumer the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act gives you the right to write to the debt collector to instruct them to stop telephoning you. If they continue, they are breaking the law and are liable to a $1000 penalty for each call made. Consumers are advised to log each phone call to interest a specialist consumer rights attorney in suing the debt collector on a contingency fee basis.
