When you run or are a member of a non-profit organization, fundraising is always a issue and a need.

by Brad Morgan

When you lead or involve in a non-profit organization, fundraising is always a problem and a goal.

The same old fundraisers can leave you feeling dispassionate. And if you are bored, just consider the feelings of the people you are trying to collect funds from. Adding some creativity into your efforts may make a big difference, both in terms of finances and your organization’s mindset.

It has become increasingly important to take part in creative fundraising. In order to compete and boost the profile of their business, non-profit leaders have had to think of collecting money in a new way.

It is important to understand that while the intention of creative fundraising is to impart innovative ways to raise money, one of the major purposes of creative fundraising is also to be happy doing it.

People respond better to fundraising proposals when they’re enjoying themselves, and when they feel like you are giving them something different and unique. They will be more likely to donate to your cause if they enjoy your organization and its employees.

If you are, for example, conducting a donation gathering meeting for an animal shelter, there are various ways you could make it new, fun, and successful.

Maybe you would hold promotional functions or rely upon collections from a scattered group of people. Most animal shelters depend on procuring funds in this way.

However, besides that what if you proceeded with creative fundraising to come up with something like a pet day?

You could couple this with a school or daycare and have little tots and their parents visit and play with the animals from the shelter. They would get to have fun and interact with these awesome pets in a nice, comfortable setting.

Parents will love seeing their children having fun with adorable animals, who are homeless. This makes them realize that they should donate money to your shelter so it can carry on doing its valuable service. This is just one of many creative fundraising ideas that won’t cost your business much to coordinate. The returns can be unimaginable, and your staff is likely to be much more zealous about these types of events.

There are creative fundraising ideas that are best suited for any non-profit organization. Let’s look at another example of what you could do to collect money for a library. Schools always need to collect funds, and being creative definitely works wonders.

This gives readers a chance to visit the library and see what everything is about. Library students could have a project fixed to them like writing creative fundraising letters in order to try and convince their parents to donate money.

People are always more amenable to opening their wallets when they’ve been fed. You can combine library day with a lunch for even more fun and unexpected returns.

These are some examples of innovative fundraising ideas that are not only fun, but practical at the same time.

School fundraisers are used for a wide range of activities, from buying new football pads for the high school team to sending the band on an out-of-town excursion for a competition. Many well known fundraising activities are as traditional as dances and locking freshmen in their lockers.

However, does tradition mean that we should just stick with the same school fundraisers no matter what? Isn’t there something a little more lucrative out there? After all, the idea of a fundraiser may be to get others to donate some money, but those activities still require some initial investments to get things started. And, unfortunately, most schools have to work within a very tight budget.

Some of the most well known fundraisers are the ones that seem to come around every year. The schools send the kids out to sell chocolate, magazines, or coupon books. The kids do their best to squeeze some money out of friends and family, or just start going door to door. It’s not a bad idea, but many of these school fundraisers still require that upfront investment but with no guarantee on a return.

Sometimes a small group within the school will use an activity like a carwash fundraiser to put together the funds for special occasions or equipment. This happens whenever a school can’t quite afford the necessary items. But, just like the other example, it requires some investment without a promise of a return.

When the student body is excited about participating in activities like this, you can generate a lot of money. For example, the football team will probably work a lot harder on the carwash when they know it’s their own equipment on the line. But the real question is: should you work harder, or just smarter?

When you work smarter that means never restricting yourself to the same old activities when there is so much more you can do. Hold the carwash if you want, but add a concession stand. There will be plenty of hungry customers who will gladly part with a few more dollars for a nice drink or a tasty snack while they wait for the kids to finish the car.

Raffles and auctions, also classic fundraisers, don’t have to be done with regular tickets. Try selling lollipops with the raffle numbers printed on the sticks. Someone may not be interested in the raffle, but they just might be willing to donate some money in exchange for a little treat.

There are many ways to take school fundraisers to the next level. You should always make it easy for someone to give you money and be sure to deliver on the goods. If you take the time to prepare your fundraising activities and manage them to the best of your ability, you’ll soon find success.

Its a familiar scenario. You sit through a parent teacher group meeting where the thought of going paperless is discussed. Ideas are tossed around and the eventual outcome is that your PTO will now send out announcements of events and activities as email attachments. The group also decides to launch a website where they will post the information and upload the forms and flyers for everyone to download.

The idea is implemented, your families compliment you on the progressive approach to running your PTO, and then it dawns on youthe paper is still piling up in your mailbox. You say to yourself, Were not sending out paper, but were still collecting loads of paper. Were only half paperless!

Actually, youre not even half paperless.

They have taken the first step by producing electronic documents. However, their workload has not changed as the sorting, tallying and filing has not yet been eliminated.

What does it mean for a PTO or PTA to be truly paperless?

Launching the website is the first step. Eliminating the sorting, tallying and filing of paper is the second. This can be accomplished by adding pages to the website that will enable the families to provide the information needed. The website will also be able to present the information to the PTO board as they need it. This can be in the form of a report or spreadsheet.

Here is an example: new families can be directed to pages on the website where they can enter their name, address and contact information. Once the details are provided, they simply click on the save button and the website records it and then presents it to the board members as they need it.

Did you see how this simple scenario has eliminated many hours of work for your PTO volunteers? Your families key the information into the website. Your website compiles and displays the information of all families with the simple click of a button. With this, your volunteers and your PTO have benefited from the elimination of hours of sorting, collating and filing. And your PTO is on the path to being truly paperless.

It sounds easy enough but must be expensive, right? Wrong! It is now actually very affordable. The Paperless PTO is a web hosting provider that offers the most complete solution for parent teacher groups. They have designed a website template that is catered exclusively to parent teacher organizations. The program will guide PTOs, PTAs and all other parent teacher groups on how to be truly paperless. And they will do it at the pace you are comfortable with. This program even offers a unique fundraising feature built into it that will help create recurring income for your PTO. We all know that volunteering is a thankless job. Wouldnt you prefer that it be easier as well as rewarding?

by Peter Moore

It is not every charity that benefits from donations from the National lottery. Maybe it could be argued that it is smaller charities that come off worst. Maybe though, all might not be lost, as a new alternative way of raising funds from the lottery is now available.

It was sin 2005 that a handful of the Premier League football clubs started to use this fund raising idea to finance the up and coming youngsters in their youth development sides. More football clubs and cricket clubs in the UK have since followed suit.

It is only now though that we see a few charities beginning to jump on the bandwagon and raise funds in a similar way, by offering their supporters a value product in return for their donations, which may have previously been given freely and without anything in return.

The lottery is already an enjoyable pastime for 20 million people in the UK, but now, by pooling their funds whilst still donating to their favourite charity, they can enjoy the experience even more than if they were to buy tickets independently.

Count up the number of supporters in your club or organisation. What is the result? Whatever the number, multiply it by four and that is the potential number of pounds (GBP) that your charity could be benefiting by on a regular basis. A kind of charity funding on autopilot. Below is a brief review of how it works.

Your supporters have the option of joining either a Euro Millions lottery syndicate or a UK National Lotto syndicate from a unique website (with your charity name at the top) given to you when you apply. They can then play in a syndicate as and when they like, with at least one guaranteed number in each draw, for five pounds a week, of which one pound (GBP) is donated to your charity in commission.

All winnings are divided equally between the syndicate members and distributed to members after each draw. No commission whatsoever is taken from winnings and the whole process is completed automatically online so that all the charity has to do, is to promote their website.

The operating company have been running this International lottery system since 2002 and do not charge anyone to join in, and being members of the UK Lotteries Council, everything is above board and legal and run in a professional way.

If you’ve ever questioned why anyone would be able to surrender guaranteed income for life and just sell his structured settlements, then understand that some people have strong grounds for doing so. They may be dealing with some form of unexpected financial dilemma. Or in some cases, people find an excellent investment opportunity requiring immediate cash to get started with.

On the other hand, people are searching for ways to make a fresh start with s wind fall of great cash. When they finally decided to use some cash infusion to begin their business venture, the concept of selling the structured settlement is one good choice. As a general rule, you’re always at a better position holding that structured settlement, but there is always exception to such rule.

Selling structured settlement is an apparent means to offer funds for an investment opportunity. Of course, education is a superior investment anytime. People may wish to pay the education expenses keep their business afloat.

Investment opportunities include initial capital. If you plan on beginning a business by dealing structure settlement for the initial cash capital, then calculate exactly how much money you demand. You may require selling only a part of your succeeding payments rather than the whole series of payments.

It’s not easy to sell structured settlements if you are going to think about it. Some states require right now an application process to make sure people dealing structured settlement are protected from fraud or ignorant decisions. Before the sale transaction can continue, it should be approved by a state government authority.

The seller as well should consult with a professional financial adviser to discourse all the consequences that trading structured settlement will create. Of course, this is a high time to verify that needs are real and logical. If you give an impending demand that could be met only by selling structured settlement, be for sure to try the advice of different experts before taking that final decision.

by David Anttony

Charity ratings are something so inconsistent that highly rated charities might easily find themselves outdone in rating by unknown ones that materialize out of nowhere. Charity Water is a representative though new sample of this. The power of the online medium and ingenuity are helping brand new charities to drive their ratings sky high. A charity that may not have any rating one day might be considered as one of the top of the chart charities by the New York Times the next day and their rating would then go through the roof in no time.

Because of the power the mass communication media have over the people, when a charity is in the good books of the media, it expands very quickly and manages to get a lot of charitable giving. By that same yardstick, when media do not have much interest in propping up a given charity, its rating also plummets in the same proportion.

Directory lists of charity rating

With scepticism running quite high with charity watchdogs pinpointing charity problems such as misconduct, having exceptionally high amounts of funds spent on admin or the misappropriation of funds, charity rating directory lists are flourishing. It’s so funny that philanthropic organizations that set out to give to others are now under the eye of charity watchdogs. Philanthropy is becoming a little complicated!

Institutions like Givespot.com, Guidestar.org etc. provide comprehensive listings of charity ratings. GiveSpot 100 list is the list of the 100 highest ranking charities that is provided by Givespot.com. Another one that provides similar data is charitynavigator.com which has a list of the top ten charities as well a charity check system. Finding out charities is made easy by this. The biggest charity director of US is Guidestar.org with lots of free data on charity as well as information that can be availed for payment. Though its name gives a different impression, Better Business Bureau is a charity directory that gives a list of both commercial and non-profit ventures of USA.

The fact is that there are enough guides that provide information about 100 top ranking charities but these ratings does not, in reality, convey the correct picture. The ratings of a charity has actually nothing much to do with what actually makes it superior to the rest. There are unique features that place a charity or non-charity institution above the rest.

Charity Ratings and faith in the public

A 2005 YouGov poll published that the majority of the British population – 56% – had only a ‘fair amount’ of trust in the global charities like Save the Children and Oxfam . Only 15% of the charities surveyed had ‘a great deal’ of trust – even in the ones that do well in charity ratings.

Charity Critics’ Warnings are profuse

Belief in charities is at an all time low these days. Public can hardly be blamed for this. Charity watchdogs are ringing warning bells of charity institutions spending even up to 60% of the amount collected on overheads that include big salaries for managers so that very little remains for real charity giving.

Recent studies show that the average costs of raising funds in the UK and Australia are 18% or 22% respectively. In the USA, the Association of Fundraising Professionals found the statistic to be around 30%. These figures do not even include admin expenses, which are often much higher. Some charity givers see this as a key issue especially with charitable giving often in the media spotlight like it was in Singapore a fewyears ago. The additional negative focus tends to reduce charitable giving which is not good.

Charity ratings secret exposed

There is not much difference in the way in which charity organizations and commercial organizations try to get money. How they eventually use that money may be different, but their modus operandi for attracting that money is essentially the same.

To increase the charity rating as well as attract better flow of funds the secret can be found in a single word – attraction.

When we see an object and would like to buy it, or make an investment in it, or want to connect with it, we tend to take a decision on the basis of how tempting it is to us. If it is very appealing, we might instantly buy it or plan to get it but if it is not all that tempting, we would definitely postpone the idea.

Charity Water is highly attractive and hence why it’s charity-rating sky rocked so quickly and the media got behind the idea. The simple idea of selling a bottle of charity water for a premium price with the extra profit been giving as a donation to the needy to access clean water was highly attractive.

The elements making up the attractiveness for Charity Water and boosting it’s ratings are quite obvious.

* First of all it has an ideal name, Charity Water, which strikes a chord in people’s heart. The person behind the idea was obviously passionate about the image and about taking it to the people.

* Their idea of the vocation and their message is lucid, plain and remarkable – sell water and give water – Buy One Give One

* Their focus was on how to solve the problem and not the problem itself. It is important for charities to properly define their focus if they want people to rate them highly. No one has interest in getting their attention turned to the unpleasant things in life. People want a positive focus. So when they are told that they can make a positive change in the lives of others by buying a bottle of water they feel happy.

How to reduce you Charity Ratings in a heart beat

The fastest way in which a charity’s ratings would go down is when it turns itself less tempting by centring its attention on the problem. People are by and large disinclined to listen to negative things. On the contrary, most people are keen on listening to positive things that involve verve, dynamism, motivation and effort to bring in a fresh vision.

All we have to do is see ourselves with our own kids and understand how we easily answer in the affirmative when they request for things in an eager and happy and excited way. But when they prefer to make their demands in a peevish or weepy way, we may tend to refuse.

The picture a charity projects would strongly affect its ratings. By projecting an arousing and motivating picture of itself it will be able to influence people well. Then people will be ready to give more in response.

Social Enterprise raises Charity Ratings and reduces Fundraising Problems

Social Enterprise is a new business pattern that evolved a few years ago. This combines trading with a social purpose. This pattern is a result of the interest of some businessmen who have social objectives but does not find the type of functioning of charitable enterprises satisfactory enough.

The medium of a conventional business enterprise may not be suitable for many businessmen whose ideas of ethics and integrity would be contrary to the way decisions are made in a commercial world. Such people use a social enterprise to use their acumen and ability to create a profit and effect great changes in the social arena. A typical example of such a social entrepreneur is Muhammad Yunus who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his rich contributions to improving social conditions.

Buy1GIVE1 commonly known as B1G1 (Buy 1 Give 1), is a global organisation that is a recent entrant into the world of charitable giving. It is a perfect blend of business and valuable causes functioning at the global level. Buy1GIVE1 has so minimised its expenses of fundraising and management that it is able to give for charity all the funds collected. The institution is similar in its attributes to the online organization Kiva.org, which has been promoted by Bill Clinton; unlike conventional charities, Buy1GIVE1 involves direct giving to charities. Many people are convinced that it is a better way for contributing things and receiving richly in return.

Entrepreneurs, who are forever on the lookout for avenues to give in return to the society in effectual ways and to donate to beneficial charitable causes, realise the exemplary worth and strong marketing principles of organisations like Buy1GIVE1. Each and every sale that is made makes a change – not merely philanthropically. It makes a change with its strong impact as well, for every sale that is made becomes a poignant story that is an eye-opener. Buy1Give1 is a far cry from the commercial enterprises that might donate a million dollars to charity, for it lets the customers fully relish the joy of giving. The transaction-based giving of Buy1Give1 is a lesson in perfection.

Businesses like Buy1GIVE1 profile charities and it tends to be the charities or worthy causes as they call them, that are the most attractive that receive the most contributions. Intrinsically business owners understand the power of attraction and they tend to go with non-profit causes that have the best story rather than look at their direct rating. They intrinsically know that their customers will connect with a better story and not ever think about a charities rating.

Maple Muesli of Australia has allied itself with a charity called Midday Meals in India, in the city of Mumbai. As a result when a packet of muesli is bought, a needy kid is given food in Mumbai. Since a simple meal is available there at the cost of 30 US cents, Midday Meals daily manages to feed about 125,000 kids. The charity feeds these children in schools and it helps substantially in protecting children from begging and other harsh realities and abuse of street life.

Maple Muesli has helped to put Midday Meals on the map as a worthy and well-rated cause in Australia. Maple Muesli share their giving story with all their customers increasing the natural rating of this amazing organisation in Mumbai without Midday Meals doing anything other than feed children. Effective Giving – The Era for Plain Charity Donations is ending

A change is impending in the setting of the top 100 charities and would become visible in a few years as more novel and productive ways of charitable giving take shape. Nowadays only limited choices exist for making donations for charitable purposes. All the existing ones are not good enough to create enough difference.

Other methods of Charity Ratings

Some of the new and different ways to give are highlighted and rated in the table below. Charity Comparison Points

Some better known and not so well-known charities as well as Social Enterprises are evaluated and rated below so as to be of help to those who contribute to these.

THE SALVATION ARMY

PATH TO GIVING : DIRECT GIVING

The Salvation Army comes among the top 100 charities globally – contributions are made directly by both businesses as well as individuals.

OPENNESS – B – Not sufficiently open – Plenty of money is being collected – but the results are not always completely clear.

BENEFIT FOR THE BUSINESS – C – Contribution to Salvation Army gets mention in the press even if it is a one time contribution.

FUNDRAISING COSTS – B – Spends millions of dollars annually to raise funds.

DONORS’ CHOICE POTENTIALS -B- For those who want to give directly, there are plenty of charities to choose from.

PROMISE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE -C- No potential noticed for bringing about a market change.

PRODUCT (RED)

ROUTE TO GIVING: MARKETING CAMPAIGN

Product (RED) is a brand licensed to collaborate with companies, and collect money for their Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis in Africa

CANDOUR – B – Insufficient candour – Lots of money is donated – but result is not completely quantifiable.

MARKETING VALUE TO BUSINESS – A – People and businesses love to support (RED) as it is backed by adored personalities like Oprah & Bono. Marketing results a little hard to track though.

EXPENSES FOR RAISING FUNDS – C – Spends huge sums of money on advertisements – giving that money directly to Africa would have been more practical.

CONTRIBUTORS’CHOICE OF CHARITY – C – Partner businesses do not have much choice in the charities that receive their contributions – all are in Africa.

PROMISE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE – B – All partners of Products (RED) are huge ventures and the entire profit is spent on helping people of Africa.

THE BODY SHOP

ROUTE TO GIVING: BUSINESS TRADE & GIVING

The Body Shop engages in community trade helping Third World countries; and makes huge donations to charities from their profits.

CANDOUR – B – Insufficient candour – Lots of money is donated – but result is not completely quantifiable.

ADVANTAGE TO BUSINESS – A-tve – Clients are by and large happy to become part of the community trade and are encouraged to buy more – the enterprise could afford to be more visible.

COSTS OF FUNDRAISING – A -Comparatively low – It is a good business pattern that makes a lot of donations to charities and enhances community trade.

DONOR’S CHOICE OF CHARITY – A – Enterprises are at liberty to choose where their contributions should go.

POTENTIAL FOR REAL GLOBAL CHANGE – B – Businesses’ giving back is great – but very few take the added effort to push for change like Body Shop.

LIVE EARTH

ROUTE TO GIVING: EVENT FUNDRAISING

Live Earth was a series of worldwide concerts held on 7 July 2007 that initiated a three-year campaign to combat climate change.

OPENNESS – F – Intelligent Giving had reported that the takings from the concert tickets sales were not accounted satisfactorily.

MARKETING VALUE TO BUSINESS – B – Business sponsors got good coverage – but it was only a one time event and it is not easy to test and measure results.

EXPENSES FOR RAISING FUNDS – C – Substantial sums were spent on promotion of an event which was considered a fiasco by many as it did not have any proper objectives.

DONORS’ CHOICE POTENTIALS – C – Funds were made available only to three charities.

PROMISE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE – C – Such events can be held just once or at the most once a year. The amount collected generally goes to better known charities.

Buy1GIVE1 (B1G1 )

ROUTE TO GIVING: SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

B1G1 is a brand licensed to any business – partnering them with any charity anywhere in the world. A truly global concept.

TRANSPARENCY – A – One for one giving ensures funds given are used for what they were intended. Customers know their giving translates into real change (e.g. numbers of trees planted, numbers of children fed).

ADVANTAGE TO BUSINESS – A+tve – Outstanding marketing value due to:

* Calculable giving * Media interest * Effective stories * Person to person * Returning customers

COSTS OF FUNDRAISING – A+tve – Absolutely no cost – B1G1 can oversee a charity’s needs for raising funds and also manage much of the administration as well. So the funds go entirely to the charity.

CONTRIBUTORS’CHOICE OF CHARITY – A – Business givers can choose their charity project or elect to give to a charity cause such as food or education, etc.

POTENTIAL FOR REAL GLOBAL CHANGE – A – Exponential. If more businesses partner charities globally, the potential for real change is massive.

You Would Think Giving away Money Would Be No Big Deal!”

Donating money may not seem to be a difficult job – it is just a question of handing over some money as cheque, cash or via the credit card. Still, someone like George Sores, who is as generous a donor as could be, agrees that effectual giving is no cakewalk. Underprivileged communities and countries receive millions of dollars in aid and still the situation remains much the same year after year.

People asking smarter questions will bring about the needed change. Social Entrepreneurs like Mohamed Yunis, Nobel Prize winner, creating innovative solutions to poverty and environmental issues with Micro Finance are carving the way to a new future where business initiatives, social enterprise and conscious consumerism transform our world. Initiatives like The Body Shop’s ‘Trade – Not Aid’ need to be replicated. New ideas like Buy1GIVE1 need to be embraced. The value of social enterprise needs to be recognised.

When questioned on how one can bring about some positive global change, Bill Gates showed Kiva.org and Buy1GIVE1 (www.b1g1.com) as examples of charities that enrich the giver. Those who sponsor a business are updated by Kiva.org about the activities of the business. Buy1GIVE1 also does this. By this arrangement enterprises get enough stories to tell their clients – if they buy a laptop they will know that it will help in some needy person somewhere else getting a computer.

Other ways to improve your Charity Ratings

Ensure that you have an inquisitive mind, and remain connected to a computer, and spare some time to find out about the new types of charities and how they function. These programs are mainly based on networking and work through the internet.

As of now if one is not connected with good international networks via the internet, the chances of losing out are substantial even with good charity rating, tomorrow things are bound to change – totally.

There are more and more examples these days of companies rising up from nothing and being sold three years later for over a billion dollars. This was unheard of ten years ago. Today this is becoming a regular occurrence. All these new Internet companies are doing one thing – tapping into global networks or creating global networks.

Buy1GIVE1 (Buy One Give One)

Buy1GIVE1 is a relatively new Social Enterprise founded by a Japanese lady called Masami Sato in 1997. Today any business anywhere in the world can be a Buy1GIVE1 member, with membership for small businesses only costing $1 per day and contributions starting from just 1c per sale. Buy1GIVE1 is leading the Buy One Give One transaction-based giving global movement. Working with Buy1GIVE1 is easy for a charity worthy cause or a business. Their model is unique, flexible and inspiring. A business simply marries any or all of its products or services with a charity project (Buy1GIVE1’s or their own) and then every time they sell something record the sale and pay their contribution each month or quarter direct to their cause or through Buy1GIVE1.

If you are not forging an alliance with Buy1GIVE1 and encouraging your business sponsors to become Buy1GIVE1 members you will be missing our more and more as this amazing enterprise makes a huge impact in the world of giving.

The dawn of a new age in charity giving

Companies that had no presence a few months ago are ravaging cyberspace with the echo of user acceptance. Services life Twitter , Facebook , MySpace , YouTube, NING and TipJoy are places you must have a presence in. Organisations like Change The Present, Kiva and companies like Buy1GIVE1 you should be building relationships with. These are all the new future and will all help maintain and build charity ratings. Today is a new opportunity to build a new future.

If you’re thinking of starting a charity fund raising
event, then you probably know all the most obvious questions that you
should be asking yourself. These include why this non profit charity
fund raising needs to exist or who will help run the fund raising
event. You need to have a clear idea of the scope of what the fund
raising will be used for and where the fund raising event will take
place. If you have the answers to all these things, then you’re well on
your way to making your dream a reality.

Now that you know what
your goals are for your charity fund raising there are some technical
issues that you might encounter. These are such things as whether your
charity requires a non-profit corporation. Non profit fundraising means
receipts for tax deductible contributions. Your non-profit fund raising
also has to support a legitimate charity. You also need to have
non-profit exempt status so that your charity does not have to pay
taxes on the money raised. If you qualify for this tax exemption then
you better be prepared to have a lot of paperwork because you’ll need
to keep all records of everything.

For non profit fund raising to
be legitimate, you really do need a board of directors. When you’re
choosing board members for your non profit charity fundraising, you
have to choose wisely. Charity fund raising board members can come from
any background but there are some points to keep in mind. Each should
bring a special ability with them and it is very important that they
are committed to your purpose. Try to find people that are fairly low
key in your community. These will be the ones that are interested in
your non profit fund raising.

This board will set the rules of
the non profit organization but they will also be responsible and
accountable in a lot of things in the non-profit fundraising. They will
have to make the policies, budgeting, planning, the non profit fund
raising itself, and human resources. Your non profit charity fund
raising also needs an executive director. This job will require a
skilled person and when you decide on this position for charity fund
raising, he/she should have the freedom to lead the rest and do what is
best for your non- profit fund raising.

So as you can see
depending on the size of your charity fund raising, it is going to be a
job in itself to get set up. There will be a lot of work for everyone
involved with the non profit fund raising, but it will be worth while
when you accomplish your goal at the end.

You need to know your goals if you are doing some charity fund raising.

‘Tis the time of the season for engaging the Salvation Army bell-ringers in full force at supermarket and department store entrances. You can’t miss the tone of their distinct kettle bells from the parking lot. Their staff and volunteer army deserve a great deal of credit for braving the cold to raise funds for those who are less fortunate.

Another effective fundraising avenue is through direct mail. You might receive these promotions in your mailbox from international charities, children’s aid organizations or from local homeless shelters or soup kitchens. I donate to one such organization.

They send out their monthly eight-page newsletter showcasing what the donations have done for lower-class poverty victims who live in fear and with very little hope. It explains how the funds help build wells and teach the poor to fish for themselves. It also testifies to changed lives because of changed hearts.

It’s a great cause started by a founder with a vision bigger than himself. The organization promises that one hundred percent of all donations get to their destinations and none gets siphoned back to pay for administrative costs. They have been certified as one of the “Best in America” by the Independent Charities of America. And donors have a choice of a dozen outlets to direct their contribution.

So after browsing through the latest newsletter I decided on one action step: I round filed it.

The main reason being after reading twelve issues of this newsletter, there’s no difference between the first one – and the latest one. They all read about the same. It’s like watching a movie for the twelfth time. It drags because you know what’s coming next.

Sure the names, faces, and situations are different. But the stories all sound similar as if penned by a writer thousands of miles away from the comforts of her living room. I’d rather read the real stories from the local victims’ mouths. They’re the ones who can identify their suffering – but also share their joy of a life-changing gift better than any long distance staff writer.

If you’re involved in writing or editing a fundraising campaign, try avoiding this sameness trap. Your subscribers will grow weary of these similar messages that lack heart and soul. Your donors will appreciate the full spectrum of your cause when they can sense the width and depth of how valuable their donations have become in the life of another human being. They want to know they’ve made a significant difference.

Here are three quirks to eliminate, which show donors they are that difference:

1) Please don’t patronize me. Donors already know how much their donations have meant. They don’t want or need to be reminded of it again and again in each article. Phrases like “Bless you,” “I’m grateful for,” and “Thank you” loses their meaning when overused.

2) Stop photo abuse. For reasons of anonymity, some stories may need to use a photo that’s not connected directly to that story. But if 95% of the pictures in your newsletter are stock, generic photos, what you create is a quick disconnect with readers. They’re wondering: If this isn’t the real family my money is helping, just who are these people in this photograph?

3) Please don’t sell me. If you try to sneak in the idea that this one gift for $110 is inexpensive – that’s just your opinion. By the way, who’s scale are you using to make such a conclusion? Insulted readers will discount your article in a flash. But if you show me reasons why this $110 gift is a bargain, now you’ve got my attention.

Writing successful fundraisers and seeing donations pour in can be huge for your organization. Your generous donors give with their heart and soul, and they also want to be touched by heart and soul stories. Give them that love, and in return, they will partner with you in your cause.

If you already have an idea of the cheerleading fundraising program, you can give a thought to organizing a charity fund raising event. However, before you dive into a fundraising activity, you should acquaint yourself with the basic strategies of fundraising. Reading the following tips and guidelines should help you get started with your fundraising agenda.

Setting Goals

You should begin with fixing the goals for your proposed fundraising event. Just ask yourself if there is any valid reason behind your plan of a charity fundraiser. If you are satisfied with the answer, you can proceed in your thoughts about the sources from which you can expect help for arranging this charity event. You must be absolutely clear about the prime highlights of your charity fundraiser and the location you think fit for hosting this event.

If you get satisfactory answers to all the above considerations, you can safely proceed towards making your dream reality. Actually, these self-questions are means of putting your mind straight about the goals you want to achieve through this event. After all, it is worth remembering that a charity fundraising program is very different from any regular cheerleading fundraising event. It helps to stay prepared for experiencing this difference.

Getting Technical

Firstly, you have to concentrate upon the technical side of a charity fundraising event. Consider whether your charity fundraiser will require the back up of any non-profit corporation. If that is the case, your non-profitable fund raising event will receive contributions that are tax deductible. The other big objective of a non-profitable fundraising is that it has to show an authentic cause of charity. Hence, you must have valid documents ready at hand if you want the funds to be exempted from tax. You need to carry every relevant record to the spot of the fundraising event so that you can prove your non-profitable stance in case of any inquiry.

The acquirement of all the legal papers proving the legitimacy of your non-profit charity fundraiser is a huge task. You have to go to the desk of a Board of Directors to get the job done for you. You must be very careful and selective about the Board members you want to certify the documents. Each member you include in the board must have some form of special ability and should have a genuine concern for the cause of your charity fund raising event. Often low profile persons from your own community can turn out to be immensely interested in your non-profit fund raising purpose.

Once you have the Board of Directors ready to back you up, they will formulate the rules for the non-profit organization you are representing. At the same time, they will assume responsibility for many other things related to that organization. The policies, budget, planning, the fundraising event, and human resources fall under the purview of the board’s discretion. You need an Executive Director for presiding over the board for taking the final decisions related to the fundraising ceremony. Like the rest of the board members, the Executive Director should also be an expert who has professional competency to guide the rest of the members and act as their leader.

Making Decisions

You must make your decision with substantial seriousness about the prior preparations essential for a non-profit charity fundraiser event and decide for yourself whether you are capable of undertaking it. You must learn how to distribute workload among all the delegates concerned with this charity event. However, the accomplishment of your final goals will really matter at the end of the day.

Charity fundraising is a big endeavor, but it is definitely worth all the planning and work. So once you have your own fundraisers managed and under control, give charity fundraising a chance and earn the satisfaction it brings.

Free – Easy Fundraising?

Apparently there are lots of issues involved that I, as a parent, never thought of. 1) Distributing the catalogs requires getting the entire school together in one place and making the sales pitch. 2) When the products come in someone has to organize all the merchandise so it can be distributed to the students. 3) Students have to handle the money, make sure they get the right amount and get it back to school on time. 4) Any time an item is damaged/incorrect the teacher has to get involved to help keep the customer satisfied. 5) Teachers are taken away from their main job and forced to become salesmen, motivational speakers and inventory control personnel.

Simple Online Fundraiser

One idea that provides a simple solution for all of these problems is an online fundraising website. It is so easy that anyone can do it and it doesn’t require a large amount of people to get it started. All you have to do is send a flyer to your e-mail contacts and your fundraiser is up and going. You can encourage these people to forward the e-mail to all of their contacts anywhere in the U.S.A enabling you to reach far more people than with traditional catalog campaigns. When anyone clicks on the link provided in the e-mail it will send them to the website where they can enjoy safe, secure online shopping at their own convenience. All orders can be paid for either through a paypal account or by major credit cards and will be shipped directly to them so your organization never has to handle any money or merchandise.

Online fundraising is a simple, fast, cheap, easy fundraiser idea for schools, churches, non profit organizations or other groups.
