Most of people with high blood pressure do not know they have it. In fact it has been estimated that about 50 percent are not aware of it. It is predicted by the year of 2025, one and half billion of people will live with high blood pressure.

While researchers are searching through for the right answers for this silent killer disease, it is up to the person to find treatments and cures to sustain their health. There are several ways to decrease your blood pressure. In this article will focus on how to lower your blood pressure by losing weight.

Losing weight can be very challenging because it involves change the lifestyle. However, once the patient is able to make several changes in the lifestyle losing weight becomes automatic.

Losing weight can be very challenging because it involves change in the lifestyle. However, once the individual is able to make few changes in the lifestyle losing weight becomes automatic.

Based on review from to British Hypertension Society, low intensity aerobic exercise can aid in lowering your blood pressure drastically. A low intensity aerobic exercise can be 20-30 min walk to a park or grocery store, slow movement yoga class, cardio workout class. It is important to maintain the routine and to exercise minimum three times a week.

The results do not show for the first 2 weeks. However, drastic results can be seen after one month. Losing weight happens in stages and an individual should be patient with him/herself. Even if the person will not see instant results in weight loss, the hypertension will be treated from the first day of exercise. Even low intensity activity will increase blood flow and improve cardiovascular system by flushing the bad cholesterol out of the body.

Eating the right type of foods is just even more essential as the exercising. It is important to eat everything in moderation and to avoid cravings. Many medical specialist recommend taking small meals up to 6 times a day.

When picking groceries chose chicken breast over a thigh or drumstick, very soon it will become natural picking the foods that are lower in cholesterol and a lot healthier for the body.

Drinking high amounts of water stimulates detoxification of body and helps healing processes to take place faster. By avoiding pops, fast food, processed foods one can eliminate about 30% of empty calorie intake.

Although there is no exact explanation to hypertension, there are many ways available to control and prevent this disease holisticly. Taking the right action by exercising and eating right is only one of many ways to combat high blood pressure.

Current advice to everyone is ensure that regular exercise is taken. This can be easier said that done – especially when gym memberships are so expensive. Also, leaving the house to take exercise – i.e. jogging requires motivation which not everyone can drum up – especially in the winter months.

A perfect alternative is to work out at home – its much easier to find an odd 1/2 hour here and there to fit in your workout. Cross Trainers are ideal for this, and there are many benefits to be had from using one.

Enjoy Your Exercise

Unlike very dull and noisy treadmills, the Cross Trainers are fun to use as you get a variety of exercise programmes. A good make of cross trainer will have a heart rate controlled programme which is an interesting feature.

Not Noisy

Most Cross Trainers are very quiet when in use. Apparently the most noise you will hear is your own gasps for breath if you try one of the intense workouts! This makes it ideal for watching TV or listening to music whilst working out. A good way to make the time go faster, if exercise is not your number one form of enjoyment !

What Are The Benefits Of A Cross Trainer?

Use The Whole Body

You will use both the upper and lower body when cross training, so this will naturally engage more muscles. The resultant rise in heart rate will allow for more calories to be burnt.

Good For Cardio Vascular Exercise

The best way to get rid of body fat and see an improvement in fitness comes from taking cardio exercise.

Improved Health With Cardio Exercise

Waking up feeling fit and fresh after a good nights sleep is just one thing that cross training can do for you. You will also enjoy the feeling of just feeling more fit and healthy.

Knowing and monitoring your blood pressure can mean the difference between life and death and that is something you should take literally.

Knowing and monitoring your blood pressure can mean the difference between life and death and that is something you should take literally. Heart disease and heart attacks are on the rise and many Americans now understand just how important it is to know your blood pressure and are taking advantage of the blood pressure cuffs at many stores.

Although the blood pressure cuff isn’t the answer on its own, it does play a role in a healthy lifestyle and keeping those habits up is a great way to raise your life expectancy. By monitoring your blood pressure you can find out if you suffer from hypertension or not. A normal blood pressure should be under 120/80 and if that is exceeded then you are at risk. If your blood pressure is over 140 then it is considered to be high blood pressure.

If you discover that your blood pressure is in the risky range, then you will need to schedule a trip to your doctor for a wellness check. On this visit, your physician will be able to give you a stress test, to see how well your heart is functioning. He or she will also be able to advise you on lifestyle changes you may need to make.

The easiest ways to lead a healthier life is to exercise and change your diet. A doctor will be able to give more specific recommendations and tell you what you are able to do.

You may need to monitor your blood pressure and heart rate at home and to do that you will need to shop around for one that is simple to use and your doctor will suggest one that will give correct results

Your choices will be between digital an aneroid blood pressure monitors. Understanding the difference can make your purchasing decision easier. Your personal needs can make this decision practical for your personality.

The aneroid kind of monitor is portable and also easy to use. On the other hand, they are also very sensitive and must be carefully handled or will easily be damaged or broken. You will also require a stethoscope and cuff to take a reading. However, on the plus side these models are also inexpensive.

Digital monitors are about the size of a cell phone and come connected to a cuff worn on the arm. This cuff measures the blood pressure and displays it on a monitor. Some models will print the results, or come equipped with a memory of the last measurements.

When the time comes to make a choice you have to decide if you want the digital monitor that is more expensive but easier to use or the less expensive aneroid that breaks easier but can be replaced inexpensively.

The wrist or finger blood pressure monitor is also an option, but they are not as accurate. Although these appear to be a good option for those looking for convenience, research also shows that they are not as reliable and that could put you at a risk.

When you start taking your own blood pressure readings, make sure to keep a chart with the results. Your doctor will want to be able to evaluate your blood pressure. Make sure that you get an accurate reading by not drinking caffeine or alcohol, and avoid smoking. These factors can artificially inflate your blood pressure.

Also ensure a relaxed position if you want an accurate reading, since even mild stress will elevate the results.

After having been diagnosed with hypertension it is a good idea to keep a blood pressure monitor around. You will find that accurate blood pressure readings will be beneficial to your overall health.

by Jalinn M Hardy

The one lesson I wish I had learned years ago is that aerobics are not the only way to lose weight. Or that resistance training may be equally important when it comes to burning off fat.

Hmmmm. No wonder I was struggling with weight loss even though I spent hours on the stationary bike and treadmill. Yet for some reason my fat loss was more or less minimal to say the least. More of less limited to what you could say was “not so much”.

All of which made me wonder why is aerobic training said to be the best for burning fat? Seems like maybe we should clear the air because you too may have assumed that aerobics is your best bet. And could benefit from finding out how resistance training might help as well.

But doesn’t it seem aerobic exercises have always been promoted for fat loss? For obvious reasons too. Aerobics are relatively easy to do and don’t have a lot of real discomfort associated with them. Plus the theory behind all this is straightforward. Achieve your fat burning heart rate. Keep it there for 30-40 minutes duration. Then you’re done.

And don’t forget you can often distract yourself with TV, music or other types of entertainment when doing aerobics.

Alternatively, we’d rather not think of the stress and strain resistance training involves. I mean it involves lifting weights repeatedly for a specific number of times. Ugh! All the math involved gives me a headache. No wonder we prefer to stay in our aerobics comfort zone.

Well maybe we’d be wise to dig further to compare the list of benefits offered by strength training verses those from cardio exercise, as defined, alone.

When it comes to burning off fat here’s how I see what cardio offers.

With any cardiovascular routine you will likely burn a few more calories than resistance training does.

There is less burning of calories after your workouts.

Another impact is a these can cause problems from the serious stress put on your joints and muscles unless you’re doing water aerobics.

Okay but what fat burning results does resistance training produce?

Believe it or not, depending on the amount of weight used and number of repetitions done you can burn more or less the same amount of calories as with an aerobic workout.

And get this. Post workout, your metabolic rate remains elevated by as much as 30% and will stay that way for as long as 36 hours. Meaning that as your muscles rebuild and repair you are still burning calories. Even while you sleep.

You also have less overall chance of injuring yourself because when you workout your core and ab muscles you improve your overall coordination and balance.

Voila! Looks like resistance training builds fat burning muscles and helps you lose fat too. No complaints there. So now what? What should you do about it?

For sure, don’t go crazy and stop your cardio workout routine upon reading this since aerobic activities bring with them their own health benefits. Rather, the sensible things to do is, meld low intensity aerobics with measured resistance training to get the best of both worlds. Or additional benefits from cardio like:

They build up your lungs and heart helping them to work more efficiently.

They enhance blood circulation.

They work to get you to a better overall level of fitness, endurance, and stamina.

Help in the muscle repair after a strength training workout.

That makes the success formula obvious. Simply embrace a complete system of cardio, resistance training and better diet to become a fitter, leaner you. Easy, right?

by Sabeen Walery

Although usually known as aerobic training or cardio workout, a cardiovascular exercise program consists in a combination of training practices that rely on the large use of the leg muscles. The activities as such stimulate both the respiratory and the cardiovascular system, improving the health condition of both heart and lungs. The main benefit of a cardiovascular exercise is that it helps one lose weight better than any other form of training, plus, if you suffer from hypertension you’ll enjoy cardio programs even more. It seems that the impact of a cardiovascular exercise on the system includes the reduction of the blood pressure too, which equals lower risks of developing other forms of heart disease.

A cardiovascular exercise requires a certain intensity level to be efficient for the heart, although overdoing is a risk you ought to consider as well. You can determine how well you train by monitoring the heart rate. You can either rely on hand measurements or use an electronic monitor for such purposes. There is a normal and a maximum heart rate per minute, you can determine the right value per minute somewhere between 50% and 80%. The success of a training session could depend exactly on this target heart rate.

Aerobic training represents the best cardiovascular exercise in many people’s opinion. Plus, it is known to cover full body training, working great for the elimination of fat deposits and efficient weight loss. A person who focuses on cardiovascular exercise will burn more calories than by using a traditional workout routine. Furthermore, other than a good cardiac rate, a cardiovascular exercise routine improves the health of the whole body system, and this doesn’t result from weight loss alone. The lungs improve their function, the joints get more flexible and there is a higher energy level to enjoy.

Don’t ignore the importance of adapting diet and lifestyle to a cardiovascular exercise program. Smokers will have more difficulties in adjusting to an intense training rhythm because of the way nicotine affects their respiratory system. Then, without quality food that provides all the nutrients necessary to the body, it is almost impossible to cope with the energy challenges of aerobic training. Energy is taken not only from the fat deposits but from the food you eat as well. Therefore, do some research and find out which types of foods are best for intense physical effort.

There is an epidemic in America called obesity. This is partially due to American’s love of everything large, and the myth that in all things, bigger is better. As a result, our diets have become steadily less healthy while our physical lives have become very sedentary. We are a nation of couch potatoes, and Federal officials are calling for us to get of our butts and start exercising.

The old rule was to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, at least five days per week. Now, the recommendation to stop gaining weight is set at a minimum of 60 minutes a day of exercising and if you want to lose weight you have to get at least 90 minutes a day of high intensity exercise.

When you engage in regular physical activity, you will reduce health risks, promote a feeling of well-being and achieve your goal of a healthy body weight. As well, you will reduce chronic adult diseases simply by engaging in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on a daily basis.

If your goal is to stop gaining weight, it’s recommended to work out at a high intensity of cardiovascular training in your heart rate training zone for at least 60 minutes and do not exceed your recommended calorie intake. This longer duration of exercise will also create greater health benefits for most people.

If you want to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. A good heart rate monitor watch will track calories burned and help keep you in your heart rate training zone. High-intensity training of 60 to 90 minutes will give you your best shot at losing weight as long as you do not exceed the recommended calorie intake.

In order to be physically fit, it is important that you include cardiovascular exercise, stretching for flexibility, and resistance exercises to build muscle strength and endurance. If you understand the correct way to exercise, you will avoid hurting or straining your self, and you will start to exercise correctly for maximum effectiveness.

Getting proper exercise requires a phased approach starting with a warm up session of from three to five minutes. During that time, your heart rate will rise slowly and the blood will flow heavier to the heart. It doesn’t matter which activity you are about to engage in, you should start at a slower pace, building up to an aerobic pace for about five to 10 minutes when you first start out and then gradually increasing the moderate to intense workout activity to anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.

Whatever type of exercise you are doing it’s important to have a cool down process at the end of your workout routine. For example, at the end of a run continue to walk until your heart rate and breathing returns to normal. A sudden stop of exercising has been known to cause heart attacks. This cool down period should last for at least five minutes. A heart rate watch will help you achieve these important steps.

Finally, to have an effective workout routine, you should include stretching for about five to 10 minutes where the muscles you used during the exercise and aerobic period can relax. This decreases the incidence of muscle soreness, and increases the effectiveness of the workout. Stretch out and hold each stress point for 20 to 30 seconds. Avoid bouncing during stretching and don’t go to the point where it is painful. Always consult with a doctor when you are going to start a new exercise program.

If our bodies are to function properly then one important thing to remember is our blood pressure. Stroke or Heart Attack are the risk factors associated with high blood pressure. Get it chacked once or twice a year to keep your mind at rest and more often if you that any of your family have ever had blood pressure that was high.

Our hearts are beating continually and as they beat they pump blood around our bodies through our blood vessels. Blood pressure is the force against these blood vessels made by the blood as it is pumped. So the heart pattern is pump rest, pump rest and so on. When the heart pumps the pressure of the blood in our arteries is at its highest and this is the systolic pressure which represents the first reading of our blood pressure. When the heart rests this is the diastolic pressure which represents the second reading of our blood pressure.

There are two numbers that make up your blood pressure reading and a normal blood pressure reading for an average healthy adult would be 120/80 this is spoken as 120 over 80. The 120 is you higher systolic pressure and the 80 is your lower diastolic pressure. Any higher result than this and your blood pressure would be desrcibed by your Doctor as high.

Say that your result was 145/95 then your blood pressure would be classed as high. Your Doctor may ask questions about your lifestyle to see if any changes can be made to remedy your high blood pressure reading. You would then have to return to the Doctors office and have regular BP checks.

If after several visits to the Doctors office you are still getting high BP readings then you are at risk and the Doctor will stress how important it is to change your lifestyle to a healthier one ( if it isn’t already ). It is possible to bring your blood pressure down naturally.

Hypertension can be caused by lifestyle things such as being over weight or smoking although there are many more things that can be the reason for high blood pressure. So if you make some kind of changes to your lifestyle then you are capable of bringing down your blood pressure.

If you do not manage to bring your blood pressure down naturally then you may have to go on medication to bring your blood pressure down. There are many different drugs that can be prescribed by your Doctor to normalize your blood pressure and you may be tried on several different types before the right one that suits your body.

Bringing your blood pressure down with lifestyle changes will spare you from medication and there possible side effects.

Hypertension the silent killer. If you don’t want to be walking around with high blood pressure and therefore at risk, because you may not know you have it as there aren’t always symptoms then get your blood pressure checked sooner rather than later.

As you begin to get older, you’ll begin to crave the fast-paced life a lot less. Instead, you will like to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. There is no need to hurry; as such, why keep on running? Nothing beats being grounded, moving slowly and understanding each step of the way.

Your outlook is similar when you are clearing the snow in your front lawn. The younger people, in their constant need to do things the fast way, buy quick and noisy machines that do the job in minutes. But that’s not for you, for you prefer the time to ponder on the fond memories gone by. You have experienced many winters, and you recall each of them as you shovel.

At least, you would have if shoveling snow doesn’t take that much effort. Shoveling snow is not that easy, and it takes considerably more effort as you count years. Stooping down, you will note at how you expose your back to harm as you scoop a considerable weight, and it becomes very tiring to simply toss the snow aside.

It is a good thing, then, that modifications have been made to the snow shovel to remove these problems. Today’s best snow shovels features improvements that make the classic design better. Most notable amongst these changes is the inclusion of a bungee cord attached to where the shovel blade meets the standard handle. Extending to just below thirty inches in length, the added feature allows you to hold the shovel while remaining upright.

Besides keeping your back safe, it also helps with the actual manual force required. You will note that the bungee material is both elastic and tough; and your basic physics will tell you that it lends some force when tossing the collected snow aside. This way, we are finally able to make snow shoveling meditative. You are now prepared to shovel snow in a relaxing way; enjoying its benefits while suffering none of the drawbacks.

It’s true; shoveling for about fifteen minutes counts as moderate physical activity, according to the 1996 Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health. We are all advised to perform at least thirty minutes of moderate activity each day to stay healthy.

These are all good statistics, but if you pay attention to these numbers, you also know that there are many cases of heart attack during snow shoveling each year. One of the reasons for this is that the people of today no longer have a body that is used to this work. If you exercise everyday, the odds of this happening to you are slim. But what about those among us who are simply not exercise buffs?

There are a variety of methods to prevent heart attack while you are clearing snow. You may, for example, decide to stretch your muscles a bit by walking for a few blocks. By warming up those muscles, there will be no shock of sudden physical activity. Another thing that you should remind yourself to do is remembering to take a break here and there. Drink some cold water while you’re at it; you get dehydrated just as easily in cold as you do in hot climate. Try to regulate your breathing as well.

An alternative is to purchase the more modern snow shovel designs. My personal recommendation is this new snow shovel design that features a bungee cord just below three feet in length. This way, you can hold the edge of the cord instead of the midsection of the shovel, enabling you to stand upright and breathe more properly. Its elastic property also lends some energy into your snow-tossing as well, and you don’t have to use up the energy yourself.

Snow shoveling, when done right, becomes a healthy habit during winter. But, if done rashly, it may actually be the cause of your deteriorating health. Make sure you avoid this by choosing the best snow shovel available in the market today. A little exercise before the deed helps, as well.
