Everything starts with a business plan: A good business plan will help you get a handle on all of the things that get glossed over in the excitement of starting a new business. If you don’t have one. Write it. It’s also a usual requirement for getting financing.

Remember that this is a retail medical business and comes with special restrictions as well as opportunities. Non-physicians can not employ physicians, HIPPA compliance, medical oversight, and a host of other regulatory issues need to be addressed. Play fast and loose with these rules and you’re asking for trouble. (One of our local competitors in Utah was not providing adequate physician oversight. The state walked in one day, confiscated all of their technology and patient records and closed them down.)

Financing is easy. Financing smart is hard: Speak the words “medical spa” as a physician and you’re everyone’s best friend. Banks, lenders, technology companies will all have big smiles on their faces and papers in their hands, ready to lend money or finance everything you need. If you’re not a physician it’s going to be harder.

A bank will probably be your first stop. Banks provide the best rates but are the most rigorous in investigating borrowers and have the least tolerance for risky loans. (and your medical spa is risky.) Banks will require that you have spotless credit and that the entire loan is secured. In most cases, everyone who owns 10% or more of the business will be personally responsible for the loan and have to provide two or more years of tax returns. Be prepared for a torrent of loan paperwork. Banks will want to see your personal financial statements, cash flow, a business plan (although they don’t read it), and have a visit.

The bank is going to want to know how the funds are intended to be used and will want to see tangible assets that have a market and can be sold if the business fails or you can’t make the payments. They don’t want to hear that you need more money for marketing and advertising or salaries that don’t have any resale value.

For a physician owned medical spa, banks will extend a loan or line of credit. Loans have a set schedule and payments. A line of credit is somewhat different. The idea is that the bank extends a line of credit that you may draw on. Interest is paid only on the amount of money that is used. However, banks usually require that the entire balance is paid off and unused for one month every year to ensure that the business is liquid. If you can’t meet this requirement, your credit line may revert to a loan.

Some bankers are at least moderately helpful. In one instance a branch manager told one of our accountants that wanted some information that “he didn’t need our business and we could just live with that”. Avoid these types if you can. A friendly banker can go a long way in securing loans and providing a little flexibility if things don’t go exactly as you planned. If you find a great banker, send him a Christmas card and some cookies once in a while.

Banks often suggest (or apply on your behalf for) an SBA (Small Business Administration) loan that’s partially guaranteed by the government.

Half of something is better than all of nothing: If you’re going to need more money than you have in assets, you still have a couple of options. These involve partnerships, joint-ventures, venture loans or equity.

Most start-ups involve some form of equity trade. Partnerships are a good example. Sweat equity in the early stages provides ownership in lieu of payment or salary. It’s very common for entrepreneurs to take little or no money, sometimes for years, until the business is on its legs. Sweat equity at this stage usually extends only to the founders but may extend to badly needed partners. When we started Surface, I took more than an 80% reduction in income.

Equity: The simplest of rules; the more money you need and higher the risk, the more equity you’re going to give up.

Angel investors are the first stop for most medical spas if they’re not self funded. Angel financing is usually raised from friends and family or “high net-worth” individuals. In some cases you may find “Angel Groups” that meet together and look for investments. Angels are usually found a the early stages of a business and are often bought out when larger investors come in.

Venture debt is basically a venture loan. The lender charges a higher interest rate than banks are allowed to (often around 14%) and accepts more risk. You will have to give up a small percentage of your company in what are called warrants. This small percentage (usually less than 5%) allows the lender to share in any potential upside. Venture debt is worth considering if you’re sure of success and you don’t want or need to give up a large equity position in you company but you’ll still be personally responsible.

Venture Capital: For most medical spas, venture capital is not an option. VC money has some downsides though. It is hard to get and extremely expensive. When you add up the entire deal, you’re looking at about 80% compounding interest each year in return for that money. VC’s are looking for an investment term of three to five years and a ROI (return on investment) of 700% or more. Whew. You’re also going to loose complete control of your company and have someone constantly looking over your shoulder. There are cases where this actually makes sense. Many VC are extremely well connected and bring these resources to the table.

Now that you’ve got the money for your medical spa. What to do?

Most medical spas are grown from an existing physician practice. The idea of having laser technicians and estheticians producing revenue, low additional overhead, increased patient flow, and the feel that “I could do that” is attractive to a large number of doctors who are tired of the grind of medicine. (We’ve been approached by a surprising diversity of physicians looking to enter this market including; anesthesiologists, cardio-thoracic surgeons, and even podiatrists.)

Multiple medical spa Locations: After some initial success, many physicians and medical spa owners open additional medical spas. (For some reason, these second-clinic startups are often opened by a relative, usually a wife or daughter.) These second locations never achieve the success of the first clinic for a very simple reason; their a completely different animal. If you’re thinking of opening multiple locations you’re work load just tripled. Multiple location sites are outside the abilities of most physicians and involve a much greater financial risk. Staffing and human resources, legal issues, medical oversight… most fail within the first year.

Successful medical spas are built around good systems. If your first clinic doesn’t run without you there for a month, you’re not ready for a second. Expanding to fast is a sure why to overextend your resources and get yourself into trouble. If you’ve closed a second clinic, lenders are going to be very wary of lending you money.

The Turn Key Solution: Franchises and consultants love to drop this phrase. The idea is an attractive one. Experts will guide your steps to financial glory. Marketing, financing, training, everything will be delivered in a nice little box with a bow on top. But, knowing a number of franchise owners and the problems they’ve encountered, I would give this advice; beware.

The current crop of franchises have a lot of problems. (One of them in California was shut down for selling medical practices to non-physicians. They’ve since reopened and are among the most aggressive advertisers.) Medical spa franchises are attractive because they claim to have all the answers. If you’ll just write the checks all of your troubles will be over. What you’ll really get are some manuals, pre-written scripts for sales, and bad ad-slicks. You’ll also get: locked into specific technologies that might be second-tier (the franchise gets kick-backs), spend money you could use elsewhere, and pay royalties on all of your income. (The franchises that offer a flat fee are an even worse idea. They have absolutely no motivation to help you.)

Rule of thumb: Big dogs eat little dogs. In this marketplace. Large, well-financed medical businesses with smart physicians and high-quality care are going to open up next door to you. (You’re the corner store, they’re Wal-Mart) These businesses will be category killers and if you’re not well established with a broad market presence and multiple revenue streams, you’ll be gone.

Bad technology choices: The $80,000 towel dryers. Choosing the right IPLs and Lasers is one of the things that will let you move ahead a step, or put you in cement boots where you stand. I always think of the way one physician described the pair of IPLs [Intense Pulsed Light devices] that he’d bought; as $80,000 towel dryers. Before you decide on which system to buy you’re going to need to crunch the numbers. How many shots will the IPL heads last for until they need to be rebuilt? How much support is included? What kind of training is provided? Does the device work well enough?

Buy your cosmetic laser, or lease. Leasing your cosmetic laser is the best way to go if you want to pay for your equipment as you use it. Many of the technology companies have delayed payment plans as long as six months. Buying used equipment is often the best way to save money if cash flow is not an issue. You can often save up to 40% off the price of a new machine if you have the cash.

Cash flow is a problem many new medical spas face. Medspa revenues and growth projections are exaggerated. Before you invest in embroidered leather spa tables, make sure you can pay your phone bill. One medical spa spent $350,000 on build out and didn’t have any money left to attract new patients. They were out of business in four months.

A few simple finance rules:

The Golden Rule is actually translated as: He with the gold makes the rules.

You will end up being personally responsible for the money: Physicians sometimes think that they can use equity in their medical practice or future earnings as security. Not a chance.

Be smart financially: Take only the amount of money you need. It’s tempting to take as much money as you can get. Don’t. All the money you take will come with strings attached.

But take enough money: Lenders hate it when you need additional money and worry something’s going wrong in the original plan.

Competition is fierce. If your medical spa market is already “owned” by a competitor, think carefully before going into debt to compete in a market you can’t win.

Financing is like anything else. In order to really find the best solutions you’re going to need to do some research. Remember, the most common reason that businesses fail is not lack of capital, its poor decision making.

by Allie Hart

Stress induced anxiety can build to the point of a panic attack. A person experiencing a panic attack feels nervous and afraid to the extreme point that they cannot act or think normally.

Since fear is an overwhelming symptom of an attack of anxiety, the brain tells the body that it is in danger. It tells the body, in a sense, that it must be put on full alert. Be ready to fight or flight!

When the brain gives that danger signal to the body, the organs must prepare for exertion: to fight or to run. The heart begins racing to pump extra blood to the organs for the emergency. Suddenly the eyes are on alert — the hearing is keener — muscles tense and tighten. Every body part is calling for extra energy.

When the brain signals the body is in danger the heart races providing emergency blood to the other organs: The eyes are on alert, the muscles tighten and tense, hearing is keener — literally every part of your body is called on for greater energy.

The body works and works. One half of the brain realizes that this is too much work, and so gives the slow down signal. But the anxiety breeds fear and the other half of the brain is yelling to speed up. Everything is racing, slowing down, racing, slowing down. The body will finally just stop.

When you suffer panic and anxiety, here are some of the things that happen:

* Rising and falling blood pressure * Accelerated heart beat * It becomes hard to breathe normally * The body feels cold * Nervousness and shaking

Stress induced anxiety plays dangerously with the body. It is no wonder that common heart problems very often are referred to as stress heart problems. Now you can see why!

No wonder stress can cause you heart problems. You have to find a way to reduce anxiety or it will eventually cause your brain to give constant mixed signals to all of your organs — taxing them to the limit.

by Jai Barson

Medical Spas have embraced the IPL device to treat a variety of skin and aging conditions, from acne to wrinkles to age spots.

Intense Pulsed Light Devices differ significantly from lasers in the way that they deliver energy into the dermis (IPL = bell curve / laser = light switch) providing a feathering of the treatment area and less painful treatments for the patient.

IPL devices have been embraced as a preferred treatment technology by plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and aesthetic physicians.

The IPL is a non-laser flash lamp light source which has the ability to emit a broad spectrum, high-intensity visible and infrared light and is used to treat a wide variety of conditions from hair removal/reduction, to Rosacea and acne therapy, removal of dyschromias and telangiectasias, and softening of facial lines and creases. The desired wavelength is chosen by either selecting a particular wavelength filter or attaching a specific treatment head or hand piece that is configured with the filter attached.

The amount of visible improvement in treating fine lines and creases is less remarkable than an ablative laser; however, significant improvement can be seen in the treatment of dyschromias and erythema which results in overall patient satisfaction.

The shorter, visible wavelengths are used to target hemoglobin and melanin with the longer, infrared wavelengths used to target water in the tissues. Because these devices operate with a pulsed light instead of a high-intensity focused beam, they emit more scatter and are considered to be less selective than a laser. Therefore, more treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results.

Intense Pulsed Light Devices can not treat all cosmetic dermatological conditions but for many plastic surgeons, dermatologists and medical spas, they’re a important tool.

Manufacturers of IPL Intense Pulsed Light devices include: Palomar, Cutera, Lumenis and Sciton although there are many others.

Fractional laser skin resurfacing aficionados will be hearing more and more about the Starlux 1540, Starlux 2940, Fraxel Repair, ActiveFX, DeepFX, and Fractional Skin Rejuvenation in the future.

by John L. Jeghelian

Fractional laser skin resurfacing aficionados will be hearing more and more about the Starlux 1540, Starlux 2940, Fraxel Repair, ActiveFX, DeepFX, and Fractional Skin Rejuvenation in the future.

To grasp the significance of these new laser skin resurfacing devices some minor understanding of the technologies of cosmetic laser skin rejuvenation treatments as well as older cosmetic laser skin treatments is a good start.

Cosmetic Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacings History

Fraxel was the first on the scene with a non-ablative fractional laser for the cosmetic medical market. Fraxel has been upgraded and has been improved on by a number of other competing fractional laser skin resurfacing technologies including the Lumenis DeepFX and ActiveFX, and Palomar Medicals Starlux 1540, and Starlux 2940.

Fractional laser skin resurfacing is new area of medicine that intersects cosmetic dermatology and traditional plastic surgery. Rapid advancements and new breakthroughs in these types of cosmetic medical technologies are occurring frequently and are fueled by an aging population of patients. The benefit for these patients is a rapid increase in the effectiveness of fractional laser treatments and less down time and potential side effects.

Fractional laser technologies new cosmetic applications are quickly expanding into related cosmetic medical areas like skin tightening, where fractional treatments compete with radio frequency (RF) treatments (Thermage), and are now moving into fat removal and cellulite treatments.

What was a revolutionary advance in 1995, full face CO2 Laser Resurfacing for wrinkle removal using the Ultra pulse CO2 laser, fairs poorly when compared to new fractional laser treatments and although the wrinkle removal results were fantastic, the CO2 laser resurfacing created a very real “burn wound” that took many months of recovery and the need for general anesthesia. After a year, the skin would turn white or show hypo pigmentation. Because of the side effects, few patients today choose to have this very effective wrinkle removing procedure.

New Fractional Skin Resurfacing Rejuvenation Technologies

Within the last few years the technologies around cosmetic Fractional Skin Rejuvenation or Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing has changed to eliminate many of the older technologies shortcomings. The erbium laser used in the Starlux is divided or ‘fractionated’ into many tiny micro-beams which treats only a portion of the skin (think tiny pin pricks) and leaves the surrounding skin intact and greatly improves the healing time.

These ‘fractionated’ treatment areas are called micro-treatment zones, and cause just enough injury to the dermis to trigger new collagen production to replace collagen damaged by aging and sun exposure. This production of new collagen ‘fills in’ or ‘plumps’ the underlying dermal tissues and smoothes out wrinkles. Untreated skin speeds the healing process to a mere 3-4 days. Since most of the pigment cells remain intact, hypo pigmentation is effectively prevented.

Starlux 1540: Palomars New Fractional Non-Ablative Laser Resurfacing Technology

The Fraxel and Starlux1540 are non ablative lasers (ablate means to “surgically remove) which means that the skin is not removed by the laser, rather the laser beam instantly heats the skin, causing inflammation and new collagen growth.

Results for skin laxity and wrinkle smoothing are less dramatic than with ablative lasers, but the benefit of reduced recovery time and reduced side effects are mean that non ablative laser treatments are often the patients first choice.

Starlux Fractional Ablative Laser Resurfacing In The Near Future

New fractional ablative lasers have recently been developed that provide the benefits of fractional treatments (less down time and reduced complications) with ablative skin resurfacings benefits (better wrinkle removal and facial rejuvenation) offering the best of both worlds.

These newer fractional ablative lasers remove tissue in the micro treatment zone instead of just heating the dermis like the old Fraxel or Starlux 1540.

The benefit of this new fractional laser ablation is that a greater amount of wrinkled and sun damaged skin can be removed than with the older laser technologies, and a better medical result is achieved. There is some minor increase in recovery time with redness for around 5-6 days. Still, the Starlux fractional ablative lasers require much less recovery time than the old non fractional erbium and CO2 ablative lasers which actually burned off the top layers of the patients dermis.

Competing Fractional Laser Technologies

Reliant: CO2 fractional laser called Repair

Lumenis: CO2 fractional ablative lasers called ActiveFX & DeepFx

Palomar: Starlux 2940 Erbium fractional ablative skin resurfacing laser.

The Sonoma Diet is similar to the South Beach Diet. As with most diets, picking the right food is a big part of the weight loss challenge. The Sonoma Diet differs from other plans because it make eating and preparing food an experience. That is, you are taught not just to enjoy eating but to enjoy choosing the food as well as preparing it.

The Sonoma diet plan teaches dieters to appreciate and eat many types of foods. You’ll learn to combine food in new ways, which keeps the eating experience fresh and exciting. This idea is stolen from the Mediterranean diet plan. On this diet boring meeting does not exist. You will build to choose from a variety of foods and learn to love all kinds of new foods.

The diet plan is divided into sections which are sometimes called waves. In the first wave your diet is restricted. First wave is about 10 days or are approximately 2 weeks. This is when the body learns to eat food all over again. Here you will perjure body of high-fat, high calorie, and high sugar foods. Your body has to learn this again because we live in a society dominated by fast food and prepackaged meals in order to cut down on cooking. You will lose weight quickly during this wave.

Most of it is water due to the change in diet but some is actual weight loss as well. Dieters learn about the components of food and why certain ones make people gain weight. To maintain the loss, dieters have to move to the next “wave” of the plan.

Second wave is the longest phase of the plan. Dieters will remain in this phase or wave and tell they succeed with their weight loss goals. This is very similar to the South Beach Diet. During this phase there aren’t any restrictions except for the exclusion of high fat and high calorie foods.

When most people sit down for a meal they grab the largest plate they can find from their cupboards. Then they fill that plate until its overloaded. By doing so, they end up overeating and gaining weight. The Sonoma diet suggests that you simply start with a smaller plate. Then fill the plate with food in specific proportions. Doing this allows you to trick your mind into believing that you have more than enough food because your plate is full, thereby, avoiding overheating and gaining weight.

The final wave of the Sonoma diet is called the maintenance phase. Here you will learn how to keep the weight off and continue to appreciate and enjoy all the foods that you’ve grown to love during the other phases of the diet. Our website offers support as does the Sonoma diet website. There are dieting tools like many planners, recipes, and lists of healthy foods that you can eat well while on the diet.

Exercise is not a big deal on this eating plan. Exercise is important but the Sonoma diet plan emphasizes changes in food consumption as the basis for weight loss. Adding an exercise routine to the new eating habits can only increase weight loss and overall health.

LASIK eye surgery is a procedure which uses a specialized laser and treats refractive errors of the eye. After the surgery, you can expect to have improved vision without the need for spectacles and contact lenses. This is the overwhelming reason for most people who think about having the procedure, because their occupation or way of life is compromised by wearing glasses. In some occupations, you are disallowed if you need to wear glasses or contacts.

Some of these people can be helped with Lasik surgery, but not everybody is suited to the procedure. Refractive errors occur when the lens and the cornea, which together are responsible for focus in the eye, are not in correct alignment. People with this condition have a prescription for glasses calculated by an eye doctor so they can see properly. The Lasik procedure is designed to permanently correct this error.

Wavefront Lasik treatment, which uses a Wavefront laser, is the latest and most popular type of Lasik eye surgery. This system uses calculations based on the eye prescription of the patient and the thickness and curvature of the cornea. Each procedure is finely calculated to the individual patient. It is effective in reducing the side effects previously common in conventional Lasik surgery, though they can still occur.

The first question most people ask is about side effects. Lasik eye surgery has been performed on thousands of patients over the years, and has proven itself to be effective, with most patients happy with their results. As with any surgical procedure, however, there are risks involved.

Some of these risks can include inaccurate results causing over or under correction. Resulting effects of the surgery may not be permanent. Vision problems can be caused like double vision, halos, sensitivity to light and glare, hazy vision. A dry eye condition is also possible, which can be very uncomfortable. There is also the possibility thar the surgery could make the vision worse than before.

Lasik eye surgery will cost you between $1,600 and $2,400 per eye. Make sure you understand what is included in the cost so you do not get an unexpected additional account for added extras. Do not make a decision based solely on cost; seek advice and information to be completely comfortable with your decision.

Research will help you find a doctor to perform your surgery. Look for an eye clinic or doctor who is experienced in Lasik procedures and has earned a good reputation. Make an appointment with more than one clinic or surgeon and ask all the questions you have and discuss the procedure fully. A good doctor will have no problem with this strategy.

Pelvic inflammatory disease can be the cause of all your heartbreak due to infertility caused by blocked tubes. In fact, it is the leading cause of things that create infertility that can be prevented. It is the scarring caused by the inflammation and infection of this pelvic inflammatory disease that lead to the blocked tubes that mean the end of your dreams for a child.

The sad thing about this pelvic inflammatory disease is that it can be a silent killer of dreams. Many women never even know they have it or have had it. They may not know till they try to find out why they aren’t getting pregnant. However, about one million women each year do come down with severe enough cases that they end up seeking help. In fact, about 150 women die from the complications of the disease each year.

While we have no way to know the actual number of women who catch this disease each year, we do know it is more than the one million acute cases. A conservative figure of 12% is given as the amount of these women who end up with blocked tubes and infertility. Just using that on the one million acute cases number, you can see that 120,000 women end up infertile each year. Some authorities give the percentage as 20% which would mean at least 200,000 women. That doesn’t count in all the silent sufferers and to do so would make those numbers very scary indeed. Add to this the infertility chances given to women who go through this for the third time, 50%, and it could make even the stoutest soul cry.

How do you get pelvic inflammatory disease? It’s caused by bacteria that enters through the cervix and possibly IUDs. The bacteria can come from STIs introduced by a sexual partner or even douching pushing certain bacteria where they don’t belong up in your uterus and the rest of the sexual organs. Women under 25 are considered most at risk possibly due to an immature cervix. Sometimes, even ob/gyn procedures and surgeries can be the cause.

As mentioned above, PID leads to scarring of the reproductive organs. It can also lead to ectopic pregnancies, abscesses, adhesions, and chronic pain due to the scarring. While hard to diagnose, pelvic inflammatory disease is rather easy to treat. It is treated with antibiotics. The catch is making sure all the bacteria is caught and destroyed. Having PID leaves your system more fragile and susceptible to further infections. This, the lack of symptoms in some women, and how hard it can be to diagnose are very good reasons to be sure to get regular exams by your doctor.

But what do you do if you have had PID and it has caused blocked tubes? What if you are infertile? Most infertility specialists will tell you your only recourse is IVF which is just not true. If the blocked tubes can be repaired, then you can have your own child without going through the hassle and expense of IVF. Therefore, have the bad section of your blocked tubes removed. You can have this done through tubal surgery.

During tubal surgery, the surgeon will remove the bad parts and then suture the tube back together. In some cases the fimbrial end, which is the part that catches the egg from the ovary, will have to be rebuilt. You will want a very experienced tubal surgeon for this kind of work. However, the success rates for tubal surgery are better than IVF and give you the chance to keep on making and trying to make babies as long as you can.

It really isn’t too late to have your child the natural way even if blocked tubes due to pelvic inflammatory disease has made you temporarily infertile. Find the best tubal surgery specialist you can and fight back against the damage done by this ugly disease.

There are several things that can cause joint pain. Most people believe that it is part of the aging process, to an extent that may be true in some cases, but not in all. There is always an underlying cause for the joint pain, and you need to find out what that cause is.

If you have joint pain and you also have a high fever and swelling, you should contact your doctor as this could be signs of an infection. In this case you would receive antibiotics and mild pain medications and some possible physical therapy to treat this. Once the infection is gone and there is no permanent damage, you can usually continue your life as normal.

If you are having joint pain that has continued to get worse and last longer this could be from joint degeneration which can be due to aging or over use. This can sometimes be treated by anti-inflammatory medications and mild over the counter pain medications. If this does not work than other measures may be required.

There are many times when surgery is needed to replace the joint, and this is the best way to go, this is done in order to keep you mobile and independent. The procedures have gotten better over the years, and the down time is often less than it was years ago. You will require physical therapy to get the new joint in working order.

Degeneration of the joint is where the ligaments stretch out and bone runs bone, in this case, a joint replacement is called for. These have been done for years, and the procedures are much more advanced. You will require physical therapy, and pain management for the first few weeks or so. These procedures highly improve your life by increasing your mobility and by decreasing the pain. This is the goal of your doctor, to keep you mobile and independent.

If you have had an injury and you know that is the cause of the joint pain, you should contact the doctor and get in to have x-rays done and other tests to make sure there is no possible permanent damage or that the injury is getting worse. Joint pain can be something simple to treat, or something that requires more advanced treatments, but unless you contact your doctor to find the cause, you may live with pain that you do not have to.

by Amy Nutt

It’s hard to stay focused with ADHD, but kids have a lot more leeway in activity than most adults do. When you are trying to hold down a job or concentrate on studying in the university, things can be rather difficult for those who are suffering from ADHD. Fortunately, there are methods of managing these problems so you’ll be better able to stick with one activity or job until it’s done.

Adults with ADHD are often overwhelmed by the idea of trying to make it work. They find themselves distracted constantly and unable to finish a task all at once. The following five tips will help you focus better and stay organized.

1. Get constant feedback. Having a teacher or supervisor react to what you’ve done and give feedback is an excellent way to help an adult with ADHD stay on track. The constant reminder to stick with what you are doing will help maintain the focus needed for many jobs. Not every job will have an understanding boss though, so be sure to look for a workplace that is open to helping you out. 2. Stick to a schedule. This is a technique that many parents find works for their ADHD children, but it can also be used with adults. Having a set routine for doing things will help you stay focused on the task at hand. It can take a while to get into that routine, but it is well worth sticking it out and working on staying on schedule since the end result will be increased productivity and concentration, something that will help you no matter what you’re doing in life. 3. Take it step by step. Sometimes one task may seem too big to do all at once. If that’s the case, try breaking it down into smaller tasks. For example, if you have to unload and shelf an entire truckload of product, you might start with taking ten boxes out. Then you take another ten. Then you remove the products from the boxes. Then shelf them. Break the job down into steps that work for you and you’ll be far more productive as you work with smaller tasks that are easier to accomplish than one big one. This can apply to just about anything you have to do. 4. Stay healthy. A healthy body makes for a healthy mind and you’ll be able to concentrate better. This includes eating well and avoiding junk food, sugar and caffeine, all of which can cause adverse reactions in adults with ADHD . You should also make sure to drink enough water since even mild dehydration can impair brain function and make it harder to focus. By maintaining your body with good nutrition and keeping it hydrated, you are making it easier for your brain to work and you’ll think clearer. 5. Use color coding. An easily visible system is going to make organization a lot easier. Labels often require too much concentration, so colors can be an excellent way for an adult with ADHD to keep things organized and see at a glance what he or she needs. Use folders, sticky notes or tags and colored pens to keep track of everything, it works very well.

Adult ADHD can be a challenge to handle, but if you are willing to do what it takes and take the time to find a method that works for you, it’s very possible to be able to focus on tasks and see them through to completion. ADHD doesn’t have to rule your life, you can take control.

Many who are interested in maintaining a healthy colon do more than having colon hydrotherapy sessions they also eat foods that are cleansing to the colon. There are many tasty and delicious foods that act like brooms in the intestine, and consumed in conjunction can have a great effect.

Juice Fasting One of the most effective ways that foods can cleanse the colon is really the lack of foods, or a fast. You can fast and refrain from eating most foods to help the body purge itself of built up feces in the colon. Juice fasts are popular, as they will provide you with the nutrients your body needs during the fast. Make sure to consult your doctor before going on any type of diet or fast.

Leafy Green Vegetables. There is a reason your mother tried so hard to persuade you to eat your spinach. Studies show that leafy green vegetables such as Broccoli, Spinach, and kale can have a positive effect on the colon. You can eat these types of fresh vegetables in a salad or add them to your favorite meal.

Fruit. Fruits are some of the best, and most delicious foods to keep the colon clean. The various types of fibers do not only work as a broom, but do also help with constipation and to promote regular bathroom habits.

Whole grains. Whole grains act like little brushes in the colon. To get the cleaning action from whole grains, add whole grain breads, and whole wheat pasta, or any other whole grain to your diet.

Besides adding foods beneficial to your colon, avoiding some less than healthy foods is also part of the program. Some foods to avoid are fried foods, fast foods, french fries and hamburgers. Use healthy oils in your cooking, such as canola oil and olive oil.

High calorie foods devoid of nutrients such as ice cream, cakes, cookies and candy should be avoided as well. By avoiding some unhealthy foods, adding some healthy foods, and getting regular exercise you’ll come along way in keeping your colon clean.
